Renewable Energy Enterprises Foundation's mission is to alleviate poverty through the application of renewable energy
technologies.
Created as a public charity nonprofit organization,
REEF empowers communities by lessening service programs' reliance on traditional energy sources. Hospitals, schools, municipalities
and village centers in developing countries cannot provide the necessary services due, in part, to increasing energy costs
usually rising about 5% -7% annually. A solution is renewable energy techonology (RET) such as photovoltaic solar and wind
with back up storage batteries as an alternate energy source. Thereby using the savings gained from lower electric bills,
service program managers have options to expand direly needed services that have been neglected for too long; a secondary
benefit of RET is reduced environmental impact on air quality and reduction in global warming gases.
However, medical service providers in outlining rural areas have a distinct challenge.Faced with
ever increasing medical delivery requirements, administrators have had to managed operations with budgets set years ago. Now
there is a solution.
CANDELARIA HOSPITAL
LUZON'S FIRST GREEN HOSPITAL
GREEN HOSPITAL PROGRAM
Hospitals and other emergency services are especially vulnerable to reoccurring power outages. At the center of this
problem is patient vulnerability. As a result of power outages, delivery of medical services in undeniably altered with potentially
tragic results.
REEF is presently engaged with the Province of Zambales, Philippines to install three hybrid renewable energy systems; photovoltaic solar with wind generators. The first of
the three hospitals to be installed is Candelaria. The project will convert energy from renewable energy technologies (RET) into the hospital's main power supply with batteries
to store for night use.
Hospital History Built in 1967, originally
with just six rooms and one ward, it handled a limited number of cases. Today its grown to twenty-five beds with fifty planned
for 2010. An astounding 3,500 patients were served in 2008 with a dedicated staff of six doctors and twelve nurses while hospitals
administrators are forecasting 93% occupancy rate, surely to surpass 2008 numbers.

SIGNEES OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING LETTER
Project Description
On April
21, 2009 REEF representatives with the provincial and local government officials entered into an agreement by signing a memorandum
of understanding letter. It authorized REEF to supply solar powered photovoltaic systems for three of their hospitals starting
with Candelaria then San Marcelino and finally the largest of the three, the provincial hospital of Iba. All are in the central
province of Zambales centrally situated on the main island of Luzon, Philippines.
Based on annual electric load, the
project design will produce 80% of the hospital's electric usage, REEF will then build a 30 kW hybrid system of a solar array
with two wind turbines with 6 kW generators dedicated to power the storage batteries. Once system comes on line Candelaria
Hospital assumes full ownership and becomes the recipient of the following benefits:

Patient
Benefits Increase electrical system reliability, reduces patient care vulnerability, and Ensures delivery of emergency
medical services during disasters when power is interrupted Improve free prescription program for indeginous population Fewer patient sick days due to better diagnostics and improved delivery of medical services
With savings from
lower energy costs, hospital has option to procure: Diagnostic equipment Ambulance services Water purification
treatment equipment Offer nutritional services to reduce associate issues related to heart disease
Benefits
to Community Improved air quality, removes petro carbon pollutants from soil and water. Each year a project could
remove: 24,815 kilos of Co2 27 kilos of Sulfur Dioxide 37 kilos of Nitrous Oxide
Benefits for the region is equivalent
to: Reduction of driving 144,128 kilometers Planting 2.8 hectares of trees Inspire communities to emulate success
SUPPORT RENEWABLE ENERGY
ENTERPRISES FOUNDATIONWe need your help so we may continue to alleviate poverty by providing hospitals the funds to improve delivery of healthcare services. REEF is entrusted to work with three hospitals to increase patient care financed with the savings from lower utility bills. Renewable energy has the potential to do much more and now is the time to act. We count on your support to deliver the benefits of renewable energy to indigenous people.

WHAT IS MDG? By United Nation's definition - "The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary
education, all by the target date of 2015 - form a blueprint agreed to by all the world's countries and all the world's leading
development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world's poorest." Those
goals are: End Poverty and Hunger; Universal Education; Gender Equality; Child Health; Maternal Health; Combat HIV/Aids; Environmental
Sustainability; Global Partnership.
During
the charter forming stages of REEF's development, it created a three year strategic plan that identified goals and strategies
to accomplish those goals. The result of which addressed, as it turned out, a shared goal with five MDG categories: end poverty
and hunger; education; healthcare, gender equality, and environmental sustainability. As REEF matures and develops it hopes
to interface with host countries' attempts to meet 2015 stated Millenium Development Goals. This is a daunting task that we are proud to be involved with.
